Resonance
When the harmonic series is aligned and stacked within one's individual sound, the resulting in tune tone* (WIBB term) resonates at a higher frequency and is recognizable as such internally and externally. The column in the middle of the harmonic series is called the Shashumna or "inner flute"(!!) - the Bringer of Joy. It also resonates, and has access to above and below, allowing Musical Intuition to be present and guide. There are many practices to tap into and recognize one's inner and outer resonance. MWL is constantly expanding to include more and more. There is also collective resonance - through individual interval practice and when influenced by another's presence. When we are equipped with individual In tune tone, we develop the flexibility to Bend and Blend with others and the collective resonance expands. There is a sense of belonging, meaning, beauty and wonder in that attuned encounter. My latest fav: "Burnout" by Drs Emily and Amelia Nagoski. Emily is a choral conductor and there are many personal musician stories to which we can relate. Here are a few docs re our relationship to stress. From allowing the physiological/somatic Stress response cycle to compete itself to the cognitive awareness of mindful stress strategies to heartfelt reappraisal of "stress" - the agent of to learning, growing and tipping in to Flow. ![]()

Resilience (The 5 C's)
The ability to bounce back again and again is a practice by which capacity within your container expands. It is a practice of awareness and integrating all our operating systems - our brain, our heart, our gut, our nervous systems. Include it all, accept it all, again and again. Courage is a necessity to discern and unpack, with a sense of optimistic realism, what's true in this moment.
Creativity the courage to be vulnerable and try again in a new way. Sometimes it's light and fun, sometimes it's a chaotic mess. Resilience is the acceptance of it all. Compassion the ability to empathize (requires emotional literacy) and hold space for you and another, without judgment, and without abdicating authenticity, autonomy, or accountability. The willingness to relate to another, while they are in their shadow. Radical acceptance of our humanity - both our mistakes, disappointments, failures and our resilient, radiant, resonant spirit. Connection to others and self is available from social support and singing! Lean in to your support systems and provide that support in return. Any singing you do raises your frequency of resonance and resilience! Incorporate it into your daily instrumental practice. Chuckles absurd humour is necessary in a resiliency practice. inspired by Dr Joan Boryshenko https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDea021j9yY&t=155s |
